About Us

We are a friendly a cappella choir singing 4 part harmony (soprano, alto, tenor, bass). New singers are most welcome, no audition required, neither is it necessary to be able to read music, though of course it helps. Previous experience of singing in a choir not required.   We aim for an interesting varied mix of music from 'True Colours', made famous by Cindy Lauper (1986) to 'Wilt Thou Unkind' by John Dowland (1597) and almost everything in between.    At Christmas we keep alive the Dorset tradition of West Gallery Carols, similar words to the well known standards but with rousing, rustic tunes that Thomas Hardy loved and championed from his youth.    Our current repertoire also includes songs such as: 'Over the Rainbow', 'My Girl', Cole Porter's 'Let's Do It', 'Loch Lomond', 'Java Jive', American spirituals and English seasonal folk songs. Founded in 1994 by a group of friends sharing a love of music. We currently meet...

Last night's 'Celebration of Song' charity concert

Now we have a blog and a Facebook presence we need to photograph and record our performances if only to examine on how we appear and most importantly – sound. A kind supporter took this photo just before we commenced our 20 minutes of eclectic songs. Our leader, Ray, is introducing us. He'd reminded us all to smile more, we absorbed the message but clearly not for this picture! We look rather apprehensive, pity because we didn't need to be.  It all went very well and was great fun. It was nice to be the first choir to sing, we could then relax and enjoy the following four 'acts', all of whom were very polished and talented. Such variety of approach from each choir demonstrated their unique characters. The Mayor of Wimborne Jeff Hart, also a valuable Jubilate bass, hosted the event which raised over £800 apparently for two fine charities – Wimborne Victoria Hospital and Planet Wimborne, the town's environmental hub.
